According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, investigators began working an assault case after a man presented at the emergency room with a gun shot wound. The shooting occurred during an argument at a residence on County Road 33 in the Ellisville community Wednesday afternoon, just before 5 o'clock. Deputies immediately began searching for the suspect in his vehicle when 911 received a report that he stole a car from a friend. A BOLO was broadcast statewide for the suspect, Terry A. Huggins, 35 of Eight Mile, Alabama, and the stolen car. As a result, Glencoe Police and the Etowah County Sheriff's Office apprehended Huggins in the stolen car just after 8 P.M.

According to Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, Huggins was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of first degree assault and theft of property.

The assault victim was transferred to a regional hospital and is undergoing treatment.
