According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, four individuals from Georgia were arrested from the fire lookout tower near Little River Canyon. Deputies responded to a call on Saturday afternoon of people climbing the tower and located them on arrival. The responding deputies made the trespassers come down from the fire tower and placed them into custody. Sheriff’s Office investigators recovered illegal drugs from atop the tower, including methamphetamine, marijuana, and opioid pills. The four were charged with criminal trespassing, unlawful possession of marijuana, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. William R. Whipkey and Zach V. McBrayer, both 18 of Marietta, Andreanna K. Phillips, 20 of Rockmart, and Sara G. Brennan, 21 of Villa Rica, were all transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center where they await bond. Sheriff Shaver said, “we take trespassing on the fire tower very seriously because it serves as a public safety communication tower and it is very dangerous to climb because of deterioration due to its age.”
