Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver announced the arrest of Ciji N. White, 33, of Cedar Bluff on charges of chemical endangerment involving a death, a class A felony.  According to Sheriff Shaver, the case was presented to a grand jury earlier this month by Chief Investigator Josh Summerford and as a result, the grand jury indicted the suspect.  Sheriff Shaver said, “We have made multiple arrests for chemical endangerment involving children, but I believe this is the first case in this judicial circuit that someone has been charged with chemical endangerment involving a death. The is a very tragic incident and we hope that people take notice that it is unacceptable to use illegal drugs during a pregnancy.”

The death occurred in November of 2016, and investigators have been waiting on autopsy results for nearly one year before proceeding.  The deceased was still born at a Chattanooga hospital and was positive for methamphetamines.  Sheriff’s Office investigators took White into custody on Monday and she was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.  She is being held on a $100,000 bond.
