Body Discovered in Weiss Lake

About 4:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2014, a fisherman spotted what appeared to be a body floating in the lake behind Yellow Creek Missionary Baptist Church.  The man contacted authorities in Leesburg who responded to the scene along with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and personnel with the Center for Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University.  The body of a female was recovered from the lake and sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville to determine identity and cause of death.  Leesburg Police Department is in charge of the investigation with assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.  More details will be released as they become available.
