Death Investigation Continues

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a be-on-the-lookout was issued in Walker County, Georgia, for a murder suspect. A Chattooga County, Georgia, deputy spotted the suspect's vehicle, and a chase ensued. Summerville, Georgia, Police Officers were also involved in the pursuit that proceeded into Alabama. Multiple Alabama law enforcement agencies responded to the area on County Road 41 near Ringgold Cross Roads and placed spike strips across the roadway in an attempt to disable the suspect's vehicle. The suspect ran over the strips, left the roadway, and came to a stop in a ditch. Officers approached the vehicle and discovered the 34 year old white male suspect suffered from an apparently self-inflicted gun-shot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith. A passenger in the vehicle was treated by Cherokee EMS personnel. Walker and Chattooga County Georgia Investigators, Dekalb and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Deputies and investigators, Alabama State Troopers,  the JSU Center for Applied Forensics,  and officers from Cedar Bluff, Leesburg, and Centre Police Departments all responded and are assisting in the continuing investigation.
