According to information released from Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, Deputy Daniel Money observed a dark colored Dodge truck with items in the bed of the truck, which were consistent with items that have been reported to the Sheriff’s Office as stolen.  Deputy Money attempted to stop the vehicle, and the driver attempted to flee.  Several officers joined the chase as the vehicle ran several stop signs and a red light with complete disregard for the safety of other motorists.  The chase ended on County Road 55 after the driver attempted to cut across a cotton field and became stuck in the mud.  Deputy Money and other officers took the driver and his passenger into custody.  They were identified as Jonathan Wade McGatha, 30, and Bridget Nicole Moon, 28.  A records check revealed McGatha had a warrant for his arrest for probation violation, and the truck had been reported stolen from Georgia.  The truck had been spray painted black to conceal its original color which was green.  McGatha and Moon have been charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and numerous traffic violations.  McGatha is also charged with the probation violation, and an investigation into the stolen vehicle and the items on the back of the truck is ongoing.  More charges are expected soon.
