Terrapin Creek Clean Up

09/05/2012

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking civic minded volunteers to join their efforts to clean up a portion of Terrapin Creek. The Creek is becoming increasingly popular with families and groups who like to take a leisurely float down the upper or lower sections. Unfortunately, some leave garbage and waste behind which detracts from the beauty of this natural resource. Sheriff Jeff Shaver is planning a Clean Up the Creek event on Wednesday and Thursday, September 26-27. The Sheriff’s Office has an inmate garbage clean-up crew that will be hauling off the garbage. Some of the local canoe and kayak outfitters are making their resources available to make this event successful. The Sheriff is inviting anyone interested in helping to meet at the Terrapin Outdoor Center located at 4114 County Road 175, Piedmont at 8:00 a.m. for sign in. For more information or if you have a group that would like to assist, call Sheriff Shaver at the Sheriff’s Office at 256-927-3366 or Don Coley at 256-927-8642.
