07/10/2012

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on July 7, 2012, a Leesburg resident reported tires and wheels were stolen from his residence by suspects who fled in a Chevy S-10 pick-up truck, and a BOLO (be on the look-out) was issued.  A short time later, Lt. Jimmy Deberry spotted the suspects in Centre and stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by 2 juveniles.  The stolen property and 2 Molotov cocktails (explosives) were found in the truck.  Further investigation revealed a third juvenile was also involved in the making of the explosives.  The first 2 juveniles are charged with theft of property, and all 3 are charged with possession/manufacturing of a destructive device.  They were transported to the Coosa Valley Youth Detention Center.  Cherokee County Fire Investigator Shawn Rogers, Deputy State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby, and Centre Police Department were also involved in the investigation.
