cornwall furnace homicide investigation

On Saturday, February 19, 2011, at approximately 3:58p.m. authorities were notified that a womans body was discovered beside her vehicle at Cornwall Furnace park. Law enforcement personnel from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cedar Bluff Police Department, District Attorneys Office, and the Department of Forensic Science responded to the scene.

Authorities identified the homicide victim as Jessica Arnell Sharp, age 25, of a Cedar Bluff address. Ms. Sharp was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Broderick Smith.

Authorities were notified a short time later that a suspect Michael Joseph Snider, age 39, of a Gaylesville address had placed a call to police dispatch. Snider indicated that he was in a wooded area approximately three miles away and that he had a self inflicted knife wound. Snider also related information about his involvement in the death of Ms. Sharp. Emergency personnel and law enforcement personnel responded and located Snider in the woods and transported him to an area hospital. Snided was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver this incident is still under investigation.
