According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at approximately 3 p.m., Anthony Mark Smith, 34, from Polk County Georgia and Jonathan Scott Beal, 41, from Hiram Georgia were arrested after they were discovered burning copper wire at a vacant house on US Highway 411 north of Centre. A passing motorist observed the men park their vehicle in a remote area and then noticed smoke coming from the area of the vacant house. The suspects later admitted to entering the vacant house and removing the wiring. Illegal drugs and paraphernalia were also found. Both men were charged with third degree burglary, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
